the iconic puzzle and games manufacturer, has acquired an HP Indigo 18K digital press to further expand its digital print capabilities.

The B2-format digital press, equipped with five ink cartridges and a printing speed of up to 4,600 sheets per hour is used for a wide range of applications — particularly for the production of personalized and short-run photo puzzles, which have become a holiday best-seller.

Ravensburger also continues to see strong demand for limited editions, 3D puzzles, and custom puzzle shapes – including round, square, or motif shapes. Digital enhancements such as augmented reality or UV-active, glow-in-the-dark colors make puzzles more versatile and open up new, interactive dimensions.

With production of personalized photo puzzles in full swing ahead of the holiday season, the company is fulfilling an impressive number of individually designed puzzles daily, each with matching packaging.

This high demand prompted Ravensburger Group to conduct a thorough review of various digital printing technologies before ultimately investing in the HP Indigo 18K.

Ravensburger Group initially contacted the HP Indigo Business Development team, which specializes in providing strategic advice to brands and companies, and introduced the company to the diverse possibilities of digital printing with HP Indigo. The aim was to highlight creative potential and develop tailor-made solutions for high-quality printing applications.

Ravensburger Group reviewed the print quality of the HP Indigo 18K firsthand during an on-site evaluation at the HP Graphic Experience Center in Barcelona. The HP Liquid Electro Photography (LEP) technology delivers quality comparable to offset printing, ensuring high color brilliance and consistent print image with the agility and flexibility of digital printing.

The HP Indigo 18K’s versatility was also a decisive factor. The variety of substrates available, including foil or foil-laminated materials, opens doors for other product categories beyond puzzles and packaging.

“The HP Indigo 18K not only offers the quality and speed we need for our puzzles, but also opens up innovative possibilities for other product categories,” says Kai Linsner, director of operations at Ravensburger.
